Movement 1, Allegro.
Movement 2 Adagio
Movement 3, Allegro Assai.
Mozart wrote four or five divertimenti for three basset horns, often played on two clarinets and bassoon. The sonority of the original three basset horns is something to die for and it seemed a shame not to have more pieces to play for these three instruments – hence this arrangement. All three instruments use the full range of the instruments down to bottom C and share the leading role so simple transpositions to other clarinets are not possible.
