NM2081 Bruch sextet for clarinet, basset horn and string quartet
The eight pieces, all in Bruch’s most romantic style, contain some of the finest writing for clarinet in the chamber repertoire. Originally scored for clarinet, viola and piano, this edition by Tony Turrill was inspired by the Mozart’s and Mendelssohn’s works for the two clarinets
NM2002 Hummel Quartet for clarinet and string trio
The Hummel quartet must rank with the Mozart and Brahms Quintets. This new edition by Alan Hacker is carefully based on the original hand written score.
NM2001 Mozart Quintet for basset clarinet in A and string quartet
Alan Hacker’s recreation of the original lost score uses in full the extended range of the Basset Clarinet, Stadler’s original instrument, for whom Mozart wrote the quintet. (The normal Bb version is also included)
NM01 Mozart quintet for Bb clarinet and string quartet.
Alan Hacker wrote “This (NM01) and the Schubert (NM05) are absolute delights and I have the same thrill playing them as with my first encounter with the Mozart and Brahms” It is a completion of a substantial Mozart fragment. The first movement has been completed by Duncan Druce, 3 movements have been added from contemporary Mozart string quartets, arranged by Tony Turrill. Originally written and completed for Basset Clarinet , alternatives are provided for the standard Bb instrument
NM02 Mozart quintet for clarinet, basset horn and string trio
Another completion by Duncan Druce this time of Mozart’s Quintet for Clarinet, Basset Horn and String Trio again with 3 movements added in arrangements by Turrill from Mozart Quintets.
NM12 Mozart Quintet, K515 set for cl., bhn. and string trio
The quintet NM02 demonstrated the potential of the grouping and inspired the setting of other works for the same combination, The ascending notes of the first theme of Mozart’s C major quintet, KV 515, could have been written specifically for the Basset Horn. They are even pitched most appropriately to take full advantage of the basset notes. This led to this arrangement of the complete quintet by Tony Turrill
NM2162 Reinecke sextet for clarinet, basset horn and string trio
Not the most well known European composer, Reinecke nevertheless left behind over 300 publications. Like Bruch there was a trio for Piano, Clarinet and viola, perhaps not a surprise as Bruch was one of Reinecke’s students. Like the Bruch this translates late well into a sextet.
NM2162 Reinecke Andante for clarinet, basset horn and string trio
This sextet is based on the very romantic second movement of Reinecke’s second clarinet trio.
NM05 Schubert quintet for clarinet and string quartet
This piano sonata was composed in 1825. the serene opening and joyful third movement reflect a time when Schubert seemed to have shaken off the blackness of his chronic ill health. The arrangement makes a charming piece that could have been written for this combination.
